Will Texas be Less of a Challenge than Baylor?

Now, I know this may sound crazy, and I'll probably get criticized for it, but could Baylor be WVU's toughest opponent all year?  Personally, I didn't think about this til' around the 3rd quarter Saturday afternoon.

Baylor has the #1 offense in the country when it comes to total yards which is an understatement. WVU has a weak defense. What people don't see is, if WVU plays a team with a high powered offense we will give up a lot of yards. In all honesty, our defense is not fully developed yet. I have been a major critic of Jeff Casteel leaving and this new scheme of the 3-4. There is a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball. You have players such as Will Clarke, Jared Barber, and Darwin Cook who all have the talent and proved it last year. What people have to understand is this defense is going to give up a lot of yards and a lot of points because they were taught to play in a 3-3-5 which is a completely different scheme and a lot more complex than a more traditional 3-4. It may just take a little while to get used to it. Hence the 63 points given up Saturday.

Now, take a look at this stat. When the LSU Tigers came to WVU last year in one of the greatest atmospheres in all of college football, WVU put up a total of 533 yards of offense. More than anyone did all year to 2nd ranked defense in the country and probably the most talented too. Don't forget, WVU's offense wasn't near fully developed in the 3rd week of the 2011 season under Holgorsen's new system.

Where I'm getting at is if WVU can put up 70 points against Baylor with ease and outscore stats wise the best offense in the country, Baylor, then who can they not outscore? Mark my word for this. Texas will be an easier opponent for WVU than Baylor was. My reason why; Texas has a good defense with an inexperienced quarterback on offense. Like I said earlier, WVU can score and put up yards against any defense in the country and I'm pretty sure it won't be hard for Geno to light it up again this week against a very tough Texas defense. It may not be the 70 points WVU put up Saturday, but expect to see a lot of yards and a lot of points from the EERs.
